Can Changing Your Mindset Change Your Life?

Imagine if on a daily basis you told yourself that you could achieve your goals. That you were a happy and strong person. Do you think this would change your outlook on life and generally make you a happier more successful person?

Of course, it would.

Our daily ‘self-talk’ is responsible for, not only how successful we are, but also how happy we are.

If you set yourself a goal of getting a new job, for example, before the interview you tell yourself over and over again,

“I’m going to mess it up”

“I’m going to say all the wrong things”

“I’m going to embarrass myself”

Just saying these sentences in your mind means you have to conjure up the images of all the ways of messing up; embarrassing yourself and saying all the wrong things.

You end up feeling these emotions as you walk through the door, and before you know it, you are a nervous wreck; your hands are shaking; your throat is dry and you walk in looking down at the floor. 

These thoughts have physically changed your demeanour.  

Now imagine saying to yourself:

“I’m going to do brilliantly”

“I going to be selected because I’m the right candidate for this role”

“The interviewer and I are really going to get along.”

Your whole demeanour changes. You stand that bit taller. You hold yourself with more confidence. You look the interviewer straight in the eye and give them a big smile and a firm handshake. You’ve got this.

If you are the interviewer which candidate would you pick?

We have, on average, anywhere between 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts per day. Imagine if over half of your thoughts were positive; goal orientating; encouraging and kind to yourself. How much happier and successful you would be?

If I were to ask you NOT to think of a pink elephant; what’s the first thing you have to do to process what I am telling you? You have to think of a pink elephant of course. 

For the rest of this week, instead of telling yourself; you can’t; won’t; don’t why not tell yourself you can; will and do!

Do this on a daily basis and you can be happier and you will be more successful.
