5 Strategies to get The Most Out of a Recruiter

Finding a job, let alone your dream job in the UAE can be time consuming and exasperating, to say the least.

I'm sure you have all read plenty of articles about how to write standout CVs, updating your LinkedIn profile or about the best questions to prepare for an interview, however, neither of these tactics can give you direct insights into the interviewer, the company or the industry. While the above tactics are necessary, a recruiter will give you the helping hand you have been looking for and give you a better chance of covering all bases throughout the recruitment process.

In order to make the most of a recruiters services, it is imperative that you play your part and help develop the relationship you want to have with your recruiter. Below are a few tactics you can use in order to make the most of your recruitment consultant.

1.Have a clear vision

If you want a recruiter to help you find your dream job, you need to know exactly what your dream job is. Whether it be working in a large corporation or a startup or working with a team or individually, you need to define exactly what it is you are looking for. You may even want to mention the lifestyle you wish to achieve as this will ultimately affect your overall job satisfaction levels.  

2.Take the Lead

You need to give a recruiter clear direction in terms of what you want and what you don't. Always remember to go home and conduct thorough research on the role your recruiter has presented to you. There is no point in leading a recruiter down the wrong path just because it's the first offer you have received, ultimately you will both end up wasting your time.

3.Find a recruiter in your area of specialization

If you want to achieve optimal results, you will need a recruiter that has close relationships with the clients in your related field and one that has a proven track record of related placements. Do your research on the recruitment firm and determine their various areas of specialization to establish if they have the necessary expertise in your field. This will optimize the relationship between you and the recruiter from the get-go.  

4.Build a relationship

In order for a recruiter to understand the type of role and the company culture that would be suitable for you, they need to get to know you. Build a good rapport with your recruiter and maintain open lines of communication. This can be done by giving them feedback about the role they have helped you attain or even just catch up over a coffee on the odd occasion. You never know when you may be looking for your next job - there is no doubt that an established relationship will give you a head start the next time around.

5.Ask for Feedback

Another benefit of having your own recruiter is that they are always given feedback about their candidate's performance throughout the recruitment process. This information is vital and can assist in correcting your interview mistakes for the future. Whether it be the questions you asked, your answers or even your body language, this information will be useful going forward. If possible, ask your recruiter to coach you and assist in correcting your weaker points.
